There are way too many researches in the game to cover. In line with the purpose of this site, only the efficiency researches that help with game progression will be covered. Researches related to pvp, pve, mining, etc will not be covered.
Building constructions/upgrades get progressively more expensive and take longer time as you progress through the game. At ops 40+ buildings start to cost in the billions in parsteel. For example upgrading the Academy from level 42 to 43 costs as much as 18.7 billion parsteel! However, the with research, this cost can be brought down by half saving billions in resources as you progress through the various levels. The same goes with ore, crystal and gas as well as construction time.

* Romulan Pure Ore, Federation Pure Gas and Klingon Pure Crystal work on a different mechanism from other efficiency researches. These researches work based on a rebate system, meaning that, instead of out-right reduction in the mineral required, you actually need the minerals required before these researches are applied. Once the upgrade is completed, the balance (as provided by these researches) are then refunded to you.
