Raiding, hunting OPL miners and space battles
Raiding is a key element of the game. Unless you are a whale, you will need to raid in order to get the required resources (parsteel, tritanium, dilithium) without waiting weeks just to have enough to upgrade 1 building.
This is a guide to base cracking using G3 ships. Currently, most G4 and G5 ships are so powerful compared to the targets that they wont need this.
1) Hitting a base with G3 ships
Ship | Crew | Remarks |
---|---|---|
Enterprise | Khan(c), Otto, Kirk or Khan(c), Joachim, Kirk |
If Enterprise unable to survive round 1 or 2 then can fall back to the Saladin for first round damage
|
Augur | Khan(c), Otto, Georgiou or Khan(c), Otto, Joachim |
Check battle report if Augur is able to fire its obliterator. If not, can consider changing to Saladin for first round damage. |
Saladin | Khan(c), Otto, Harrison |
Powerful first shot. However, can be wasted if there are tiny ships in the way as the entire shot will be lost on that 1 ship. |
Bortas | Khan(c), Otto, Joachim |

2) Tag team / chain hitting
This is when a base is too strong for 1 ship to crack. The raider either uses multiple ships in rapid succession or requests other raiders to co-operate and attack together in rapid succession. The reason is that the base and any defending ships will require some time for their shields to regenerate. Therefore rapid hits ensure that the subsequent attackers have less to no shield to deal with hence making it easier to crack the base.
When attempting this attack on bases with ships, raiders need to note the following attack preference or the tag team/chain attack may not be very effective.

When scouting for bases to raid, it is important to check if the target base is active.
Besides looking for ships flying in and out, you can also check his player profile and see if they change over time.
The key statistics are highlighted in yellow in the image below.
This method can also be used after you have hit the base to potentially help identify baiters.
Any raider will naturally use the ship with the largest cargo to maximize the amount of resources to be taken per hit.
It is best to raid with only 1 ship if your base is within 3 seconds trip from the target base. Use 2 ship if the distance is further.
Due to the officers that increase cargo space, the following crew combination is recommended for the ship with the largest cargo space:
Two of Eleven as captain, Four of Eleven and Stonn
In the event that a base has so much resources that it justifies the use of the Amalgam, then B'Etor may be considered to replace Stonn.
A base can be emptied so much faster if there are multiple raiders. This is because the game actually allows multiple ships to raid at the same time.
Simultaneous raids can be achieved if the raiders hit the base at the same time. The game will allow the odd numbered raiders to raid. For example, if 3 raiders arrive at the same time (within 0.5s of each other), then the first and third will get to raid whereas the second raider will have to try again.
Additional raiders can start their raid when the first raider is at around mid point of his/her raiding run.
When a bases ports to a planet, its location is determined by a set sequence and also by the bases already at the planet.
The diagram below shows the sequence that bases are positioned on a planet.
The first base to move to the planet will get position 1 and second will get position 2 and so forth.
In the event that a base moved out then that position will be filled by the next base to port in before the next position is filled.
Note:
If a base has not been hit in the last 2 hours, the system will accord it an automatic 10 minutes shield immediately after the first hit.
A base, once attacked, will automatically start to repair its defenses. If it is not constantly attacked, these defenses will then be able to destroy survey ships after several minutes. So if you took a break or the 10 minutes auto bubble just dropped, you will need to hit the base again with your warship before your survey ships can start raiding again.
Take note that, if a raid lasts more than 2 hours, the system will automatically put up a 10 minute automatic shield every 2 hours. So check your timing and if it has been 2/4/6/8 hours, then you can continue raiding again after the shield drop and your warship breaks the base again.
Hunting miners who are OPL (over protected limit) is a way for some players to be able to get the necessary materials. If you hate mining or dont have the specialized miner or dont have access to the material (territory) then OPL hunting is the only way to get the necessary materials to refine.
Most OPL hunters will use the Vidar as it is a fast warship with a large cargo.
Occasionally, a big faction miner may be used in the event the target has so much cargo that even the vidar with Stonn/borg stonn/two are unable to carry.
With cloaking, other warships may be used for attacking miners that are not too heavily loaded but where the players may be in high alert.
Although the battle triangle indicate which ships types have advantages over other types of ships, these can be easily overcome using crew setup and research.
Therefore it is very difficult to determine if your ship can win against another as there are just too many factors to consider. The following are some of the factors:
1) ship power
2) crew (bridge crew and below decks)
3) research (there are many research covering areas such as damage, accuracy, penetration, defense, etc.)
4) faction
5) battle triangle
